Why Louisville, Kentucky Was the Perfect 45th Birthday Getaway
Why Louisville, Kentucky Was the Perfect 45th Birthday Getaway
Bourbon. Black girl joy. Big laughs. When I turned 45, I knew I didn’t want to just do dinner and cake. I wanted a whole experience. So I grabbed five of my favorite women, booked a flight, and we made our way to Louisville, Kentucky for a birthday weekend that gave luxury, culture, and vibes from start to finish.
Let me tell you—Louisville did not disappoint.
✈️ How We Got There
We kept it simple and smooth with a nonstop flight on Breeze Airways straight out of Charleston, SC. The flight was quick, easy, and gave us more time to enjoy what mattered most—the fun.
🏨 Where We Stayed
We checked into the Moxy Downtown Louisville—and yes, it was giving everything it needed to give! Bold decor, great location, and a bar right in the lobby. Perfect for a girls’ trip.
🥃 What We Did (And Loved!)
If you’ve never been to Louisville, know this—it’s more than just bourbon (though the bourbon is bourbon-ing). Here’s how we spent our weekend:
✅ Evan Williams Bourbon Experience
We kicked things off with a bourbon tasting that was as smooth as it was educational. The vibe was grown and sexy with a dash of Kentucky pride.
✅ Kentucky Derby Museum
Who knew the Derby had such rich history? This spot was fun, interactive, and let us channel our inner “Churchill Chic.”
✅ Muhammad Ali Center
This was powerful. As Black women, walking through this museum dedicated to a global icon felt personal. It’s a must-do if you’re in the city.
✅ Big Four Bridge
We took a scenic walk across the bridge from Indiana back to Louisville. Sunset, sisterhood, and selfies—chef’s kiss.
🍴 Where We Ate and Sipped
Listen, Louisville’s food scene is not to be played with. We ate like queens and toasted to 45 years of life, love, and leveling up.

Brunch & Soul – So good, we went twice.
-
Tribe – Cute cocktail vibes with good energy.
-
Churchill Downs – Not just for racing; the food hit too!
-

-

-
Zombie Taco – We popped in for drinks and tacos. 10/10.
-
Hiphop Sweet Shop – Because dessert is always a good idea.
-
Parlay at Fourth Street Live – The nightcap spot. Music, drinks, dancing. Period.
💜 Final Thoughts
This trip wasn’t just about turning 45—it was about celebrating everything that got me here. The laughter, the late-night convos, the matching fits, the food, and the freedom? It was everything.
If you’re thinking about planning your next girls’ getaway or solo birthday escape—don’t sleep on Louisville. It’s a city that knows how to show a good time without trying too hard.
